Medical Alert

 

 During training, the dogs that have a particular ability to respond to scent discrimination are selected for medical alert/response.  Individuals with diabetes, seizures, other medical conditions emit odors when their blood sugars are high or low, prior to the body having a seizure, etc. It is also believed that the body changes chemically prior to a seizure or other medical conditions, therefor also emitting a different odor at the time. Trained medic alert dogs can detect and respond to those changes in the body.
